Cement production in Armenia rose by 6.2 per cent in the first seven months of the year, according to the latest data from the country’s national statistics service.
During January-July 2013, Armenia produced 235,600t of cement, the government’s statistics agency reported. Meanwhile, local press reported that 92,500t of this amount was exported to neighbouring Georgia.
Armenia’s building sector was severely impacted by the global financial crisis and the effects have continued to linger. The cement market has felt the knock-on effects but saw a modest recovery in demand last year to 0.34 per cent (an increase of 4.9 per cent YoY). Slow but steady increases of around three per cent per annum for 2013 and 2014 are expected.
